...I know there must be a story behind "aardvark" and you've both got me quite curious. However, that's a perfect look for you for my Hell, Crowley. [ Lucifer chuckled at the idea, trying to imagine Crowley as an aardvark. ] I would avoid the 'original sin' title given the situation. Crowley is just fine.
[ Tilting his gaze to Aziraphale, he did the 'so-so' gesture before suggesting- ] Perhaps we should stick to 'Az' while you're there? Just in case... that name just sings of 'angel'.
[ At Crowley's suggestions, Lucifer closed his eyes and began to imagine what it would look like. Aziraphale's general build to begin with, then remove the human ears and put the large ears of a corgi. An elongated canine face, though making everything more rounded to match the angel's facial structure. The gold fur would be odd... instead, crimson fur with a gold tinge. At the suggestion of a queen, a tiny golden crown tucked between the ears and a broad metallic collar in gold and black. The hands more paw-like, the upraised ankles like himself but with broad enough paws that he would have the balance of a foot. The angel's outfit, but in shade of grey with a black coat. A split in the pants and coat to allow for the stubby tail. ...Yes, that would do.
His eyes opened and he winked towards Crowley before he flicked his fingers at Aziraphale. It was purely cosmetic, so the angel would feel no differently, but Crowley and himself would see the outcome. ]
A quip from a couple millennia ago when we were just becoming friends. I tried to spur polite conversation with a terrible icebreaker.
He asked if I was still a demon. Like, what the bloody else would I be?
He told me it was a stupid question and asked what else would he be? An aardvark? [Aziraphale chuckled.]
Now that will be the hardest part when we visit. Not calling you Angel. [He smirked and moved to the barrier, looking the angel over with his new demonic disguise. He looked amused and clicked his tongue.]
Well, well. Lookit you! [He miracled a mirror for the angel and the blonde squawked in abject horror.]
My clothes! [He squeaked in distress.] It looks as if you've dressed me, Crowley!
[The serpent couldn't stifle the laugh, beaming at Lucifer. A job well done, he'd say!]
[ The explanation was as silly as he expected, making Lucifer laugh as he leaned back in his chair. ]
It seems like both of you were more than a bit awkward back then. Yet... I'm impressed you attempted it and stayed friends all this time. Almost as if Fate decreed your friendship to be so.
[ Aziraphale's reaction made Lucifer laugh all over again. ] It's your clothing, just in greys and black! [ The smile from Crowley got him to grin, stretching his arms up as if to say 'no big deal'. ]
Back then? He's still awkward. [Crowley quipped and the angel rolled his eyes but still smiled fondly.] But, I suppose if Fate was to decree anything, I'm glad it was this.
It may very well be my clothing, but the colour palette is horrendous! I look so... drab and depressing!
You look fine, Angel. Remember the last time you were fussy over your attire? You were nearly discorporated. [The angel puffed out his cheeks but didn't argue further. Crowley made a sort of mental note of his own form shift then morphed back to normal.]
Could be worse, you know. [ There was that mischief again, puffing his claws on the front of his coat and looking at them as if it was no big deal. ]
I could have changed you into an incubus. Then I would have had to make your clothing match their aesthetic which, let me tell you, is unusually black, leather, and very skimpy. Designed to advertise their 'goods'.
Though you strike me much more as one of the baphomets than an incubus.
[The angel flustered and floundered at the suggestion of being made into an incubus.]
I-I-I hardly think that's befitting of-of an angel! I-I would never go out in public so scantily clad!
Oh, relax, Angel. Your dignity's been spared by our gracious host. But, I do wonder how we're going to hide that glowing beacon of holiness. At least I feel infernal. Thoughts?
[ Aziraphale's reaction was exactly what Lucifer thought it would be from his little teasing, making Lucifer grin fiercely. ]
But while you're in Hell, you're not an angel! [ He continued to tease, but not as strongly. How could he resist? Yet Crowley's point about the angel was an important blockade on this possibility. With a wave of his fingers, he dismissed the illusion on Aziraphale before he looked to Crowley. ]
Now, isn't that the question? I have a theory we might be able to leverage... if you're willing, Crowley. I could take some of your magic and create a pendant that Aziraphale can wear. It would fill out the illusion and he would feel like you, but that's a lot better than him feeling like me.
[The angel didn't look any more at ease being told that. Even if he wouldn't look angelic, he was still an angel! The very idea that he would be anything but was terrifying so he chose not to even entertain it! ...oh, but that was him being speciesest in a sense, wasn't it? Racist? Did demons count as their own species or race? Either way, it was rude! And though it never seemed to bother Crowley that much, he hated thinking that way for Crowley's sake!
Unaware of his angel's internal turmoil, Crowley faced Lucifer fully and considered that idea. It made sense and was likely a lot easier than his idea.]
Sounds like a plan! How do I go about giving you some of my magic? [He'd hate to pluck another feather from his prefect wings, but he'd do it for his angel.]
[ Given that Crowley seemed calm about the idea, and he far more trusted the other fallen about the angel's acceptance of what they were doing, he assumed everything was alright with his idea. ]
Well, just let me... [ He concentrated, reimagining the design he produced for Aziraphale's disguise, then focused specifically on the black and gold collar. With a little pop! of displaced air, it appeared in his hands with one small adjustment. Now it had a repeating pattern of swords, some pointed up, some pointed down, among the filigree- except for the center. That one stood alone in the center of the collar, pointed down, and the filigree had become flames around that sword alone. ]
There we go! One perfect vessel for our trickery. [ Lucifer turned it around to show Aziraphale, raising a brow towards the angel. ] I know it isn't your colors, but thinking the change in design might put you more at ease?
[The fussy angel was pulled from his internal panic, looking at the newly designed collar, features softening some.]
Well, I will say it is more in line with my calling card.
[Crowley smiled warmly at the added symbol. Angel of the Eastern Gate, though most probably wouldn't know that's what the flaming sword stood for. The very same sword he'd given away to Adam and Eve for protection. Even if it was now tied to War, the sword still belonged to Aziraphale.]
[ Nope! Lucifer had no clue what it meant, though it reminded him of his brother's holy blade, a connection he was trying hard not to think about. It was very clear that Aziraphale was not this world's version of his brother, thank goodness. ]
Crowley, you can put your hand on the collar and... [ Oh how to explain... ] Ah! Imagine a dry river, one that starts at you, goes down your arm, and connects to an empty lake inside the collar. Your own magic is like another lake but full. Break open a little dam of earth and in your mind, see your magic flow down the river and out into the empty lake. It certainly isn't a lake bigger than your own, so it will fill quickly!
[Crowley covered the top of the collar with one hand, following the thought process Lucifer laid out for him. It was different than just snapping his fingers and filling the lake. More along the vein of when he detoxified his corporation of alcohol to sober up. He focused, feeling the tingling warmth flow past the dam and into the vessel of the collar. Filling a lake. Or, in this case, a puddle, he mused. Wisps of glittering red and gold slithered down his arm like snakes, pooling into the collar. He'd closed his eyes to visualise better, but hearing Aziraphale's soft little gasp encouraged him to open his eyes. The ethereal being had moved closer to the barrier to watch. Strangely enough, a golden and baby blue glow outlined Aziraphale's form, his own holy magic reacting to the raw form of Crowley's. Even more strange was that it didn't feel violent. More just... drawn to it. Like the two powers wanted to be one. Crowley's magic tasted like fire and ash, hint of sulphur that had burned through his very being when he Fell, and a hint of sweet apple. While Aziraphale's was more like a the damp earth of a rain shower, a hint of ozone, fresh parchment, and a sweet floral note.]
[ Lucifer's voice was a hushed whisper as he witnessed something he had never seen before. He could sense both auras quite clearly - curious how different his own and Crowley's turned out to be despite how similar to they are otherwise. ]
In all my years, I've never seen anything like this. ...Aziraphale... what happens if you do the same as what I described to Crowley?
[ Could an angel and a demon's magic combine so cleanly? ...Did that explain thing he had sensed with Charlie...? ]
[Aziraphale stammered something but closed his eyes, holding a hand out, palm up. He didn't have the collar to pour into, but he thought he could just... fill a small empty space. Just as Crowley, he imagined a lake and stream, the tingling sensation trickling down his arm. Unlike Crowley's taking on snakes, Aziraphale's almost fluttered along his skin like butterfly wings. It coalesced into his palm, blue and gold, taking on the glittering shape of a butterfly. The sparkles seemed to lazily shift and surge like waves on a beach through the form. Whereas Crowley's seemed to crackle and flicker like flames. But the feeling brought a similar glow to Crowley's outline.]
It's like a magnetic pull. [Aziraphale stated, fingers curled slightly trying to cage the palm-sized butterfly in his hand to keep it from floating towards Crowley.] M-my power is holy. This feels dangerous...
[ As ever as he was as an angel, the curiosity in Lucifer had never changed. He looked on both angel and demon, then turned the collar so it was partly outside of the circle. Aziraphale's magic was beautiful and Crowley's in his own way, and he wanted to see what would happen. ]
Touch the collar, Aziraphale. Crowley, pull your hand away. ...Just in case.
[ Would it... explode? Become dangerous to either or any of them? Yet something in him told him there would be something incredible instead. ]
[Crowley pulled his hand back and stepped away just a bit. While Aziraphale stepped a bit into the circle, past the barrier, and brought the butterfly to meet the collar. As it got close, the red and gold serpent sprung from the collar. The angel pulled his hand away protectively, but the serpent and butterfly collided anyway. There was a small flash of purple and gold light that made Aziraphale shield his eyes and Crowley close his more light sensitive eyes against it. It had been a violent reaction, but it hadn't caused any actual damage to any of them. When the light dimmed, where the two animals had met was now one. Violet and gold, floating above the collar, was a winged serpent. The gold flecks jumped around it like flames while the violet glitter moved like water through its form. Fire and water, angel and demon, combined into one violently powerful energy.
Both angel and demon stared in shock at the new little creation. When their powers combined, it was far more powerful than anything they felt individually.]
That's... Crowley, how much magic did you pour into that collar?! [The angel seemed a bit alarmed.]
Not much... why?
That feels like a 25 Lazuri miracle! [He'd known Crowley was powerful, but this was amazing!]
Lucifer's eyes lit up at the unbelievable display of power, only narrowing his eyes against the light and then widening in joy when it dimmed. Two entirely unique magicks, of opposite alignment in every way... becoming one and far more power than either had been alone. ]
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. [ Lucifer whispered, barely able to take his eyes off the stunning creature to give Aziraphale a strange look. ]
Like a what now? [ Out of curiosity, he offered a hand out to the creature, speaking softly. ] Do they both control you, or neither? Friend or foe? I am grateful that little display happened inside of this circle - it should prevent anyone from your respective sides coming to investigate.
Oh, his side classified magical power, miracles where we're from, by how many times the magic could have resurrected Lazarus. A ridiculous measuring system.
[Crowley grumbled, stepping closer again, looking at the little creature made of magic and glitter. When Lucifer offered his hand to it, the winged serpent floated towards him, sitting in his palm, wrapping its tail around his wrist loosely. It felt like a ray of sunshine on a warm day combined with a cool breeze. A calming feeling given how violently it had come into being.]
I'm not controlling anything. [Crowley offered and looked over to the angel.]
Nor am I.
That's not-- We didn't-- I can't-- ngk. Wh-- uh... Th-... [Words, Crowley.]
[ ...WHAT? He briefly stared at Crowley at the utter ridiculousness of a system before he muttered in such a way as to be purposefully overheard. ]
I don't know anyone who has managed to bring someone back from the dead, on either side. Magic is magic. Bringing Charlie into the world, now that was a miracle.
[ But when the serpent fluttered over to Lucifer, his eyes just light up in joy, crooning to the beautiful creature. ]
You two created this lovely beast- aren't you just the cutest little thing! I never thought of snakes with wings... ah, you feel as amazing as you look!
[ He very gently pet over its head, then down its back. ]
I've never seen anyone put magic together with no particular intention in mind... your magicks decided what they wanted to do on their own!
[The little serpent seemed to coo and trill when Lucifer baby-talked to it. It's tail tightened and it sneezed. With that little action, it seemed to explode in glitter ,but when the puff of violet glitter cleared up the being was solid. Flesh and blood. A feathered, winged serpent sat in the fallen angel's palm.]
I-it's alive? [Aziraphale said, stunned, as the creature sat there as real as three of them. Crowley leaned closer and the little pink tongue flicked, tasting the air. It nestled down into Lucifer's hand like a nest, curling up and looking up at the Fallen holding him.]
Ngk... [Crowley.exe has stopped responding.]
Surely you influenced it, Lucifer. You must have, right?
I promise, I did nothing. That would have interfered in the experiment! It's absolutely incredible! I can feel it's a mix of you both and yet something entirely its own... I can only imagine this is a creature- [ He paused, looking down at the beautiful creation, and whispered: ]
...It's like a nephilim. Born of both words.
[ He looked up to the other two, a mixture of awe and concern in his eyes, but already he unconsciously wanted to protect the newborn creature as seen in the way his hand tucked up to his chest. ]
[ Witnessing Crowley being completely unable to process what had happened was, frankly, very entertaining, but the angel finally coming through and saying the truth made Lucifer do a finger gun at Aziraphale. ]
That, my friend, is precisely what you did. And look how cute it is! [ Using a finger, he stroked over its back. ] They're going to have to give you a name... if they can get over your existence. You might have to come back with me if their Heaven or Hell can sense you...
I'm not... I mean... The Angel can't keep his own plants alive. We couldn't...
[Crowley was flustered and not sure just how to handle this. In a way, that meant they had a child! He couldn't process that! Especially after Aziraphale had just so blatantly denied that they had any kind of relationship. He understood, he did! But...]
I have no idea if our respective sides can feel it... or what the repercussions of this could be.
[The little serpent arched into his touch, ruffling its wings and resettling them happily.]
Hopefully, the circle contained the actual moment of creation... the question boils down to if, once out of the circle, could anyone else sense it?
[ Though he shared a look towards Crowley, wondering if the other was thinking on similar lines to himself. Potentially, given that Crowley seemed interested in children, this could lead towards that very end. However, since Crowley seemed so godsmacked about it, maybe not. ]
Would either of you like to hold it? Seems quite friendly. [ Lucifer uses the tip of a claw to gently scritch under its chin. ] Likely... it'll only eat little things, provided it gets no larger.
